2005
Appalachian Extreme20 - 24 May 2005, hosted by
Sunday River Ski Resort,
Created by Racing Ahead
Inc.
This is the LAST Appalachian Extreme
ever!
This is the race you have been working out all
winter in preparation for!! 3 - 4 days of non-stop navigating, flatwater
& whitewater canoeing, mountain biking, trekking, and
a rope section makes this grueling race
an
AR World Series Qualifier!!
This is a weekend full of biking, buffets and
beer. You know we had to be there to catch the
highlights.
Fun events, all-you-can eat pasta and a keg
party, not to mention some great mountain biking. This was the
perfect way to celebrate the last few days of the mountain
biking season at Plattekill and begin the preparations for the
snow. Oh yes, did I mention the snow? The downhill race took
place in 1.5-3 inches of snow on top of that Plattekill mud
you know so well!!
You know those little wrinkles you get in your
fingers when you stay in the pool too long? Did you ever get
those on your ass? You did if you were at this race!
The downpour made everything hard to do, from
mountain biking to reading your map. It also played havoc with
our equipment. Nonetheless we fought to get you the best shots
we could against the sideways blowing rain and 45 degree
temperatures.
You would never know the weather was so bad from
all the smiling faces. It is amazing how the more you
challenge these athletes, the more fun they have.
The New
Balance Adventure Run had some great terrain and lots of
options for navigation. With trails criss-crossing all over,
if you didn't sharpen those map-reading skills prior to April
26th I'll bet you found yourself wondering where you
were!
This
race included trail running, mountain biking, kayaking,
special tests and navigation. Total miles,
22-28.

beautiful. This race series is well run and very fun. The
family atmosphere makes it a less intimidating
series.
